person enlightened, knowledgeable and progressive. In Islam we have first
command of Allah SWT is to ‘’read’’, that shows that the journey of knowledge
starts with reading, although in the modern world, there are many mediums that
have partially replaced the books, for example, audio and video aid in the
educational process but no one can deny the importance of the books. However,
it is important to develop reading habit in kids in early ages, a well-read kid
is always way ahead of the rest of the student of his/her level. Having set
that, we must know that only reading dose not matters, the huge thing is what
our kids are reading?Today, markets and the internet are flooded with
literate, and information that is literary making our young generations
atheist, it is responsibility of a parent that keep noticing what their child
is reading, and the provide them right material, or at least if they cannot
approach anything suitable, teach their children the right dogma, and off course
pray for them as well. But today I will mention some tips that will help you
develop reading habits in children. we will discuss the content later.
Igniting your child’s interest
· Right
form the babyhood put a little board or soft colorful books in the toys, read
stories to them instead of telling stories, read them from the book. It is
better to start with Prophetic stories, I have a childhood memory that my
mother (may Allah have mercy on her soul) always told me stories of Ambiya
alyhimus salam (Prophets), and gradually I came to understand those stories.
· Make a library in your home or visit a library with them, smell books and let them smell it will create a relationship between them and books.
· Read in different places, you can read in a dark room with candle or torch it will make an ambiance that will make it memorable, read in the tent or you can read under a tree.
· Read to them in the bedtime or let them read to you. Make your reading area beautiful and comfortable.
· Visit book store more then you visit a toy store.
· Chose a book of level of your child level.
· Reading isn’t just about sitting down with a good book. It’s a part of daily life, too. As you go through your day, help your child keep an eye out for “reading moments.”

· For little ones, a well-illustrated book with vibrant colors would be a better choice.
